An update from Myth Cycles part 1

It’s been a long time since my last blog post! I’m sure some of you are wondering what Myth is up to, and if I can be completely honest? So have I.

There’s a lot of the story to tell, so I’m breaking this up into two parts. Part 1 will be the personal side, so folks know what I (Eric) have been up to, and part 2 will be the business side. If you have no interest in my story you’re more than welcome to just skip to part 2 and I won’t be bothered at all.

Getting personal

First an introduction; I’m Eric, and I’m every single employee of Myth Cycles. I do everything from ordering material to building the frames, to powder coating them and also final assembly into a complete bike. If that sounds like a lot to take on, you’re right! Anyway, here’s a bit about my life recently.

Probably the biggest thing that has affected every part of my life for the last 2 years is that I had some health issues that have made working full time very difficult. I haven’t ridden bikes much at all since Fall of 2023, and so understandably work itself has been a lot to keep up with. I’m also a dad, and my boys are 2 and 4 years old, so the last few years have been the most full-on of my life, bar none.

However, I’m happy to report my health issues are starting to resolve and I’ve been on a few good bike rides this summer! That has been amazing for my mental health and also it’s helped rekindle my love of bikes. Making something I love into a career has been a double edged sword, and not being able to ride was a final blow that made work related stuff a big challenge. Getting back on the bike has been fantastic, and I’m hoping to continue improving enough to go on some long rides by the end of the year.

The coming industry crash

The bike industry is coming apart at the seams right now. Many of us saw the downturn starting in 2024, and with my health not doing well and also seeing big changes on the political horizon, I needed to think about my family first and so made the very difficult decision to pick up another job. In spring 2025 Myth went to part time and I now work most of the week as an HVAC technician. Bruce Gordon said “I should have been a plumber” and I’ve always tried to learn from my elders so here I am.

As predicted sales on new bikes have hit all-time-lows in 2025. My decision was the right one, and I’ve been able to watch the crash happen without panicking about money. Again, my family comes first and keeping food on the table is my number one priority.

But what about Myth?

Does this mean Myth is gone? Hell no! I’m still in business and selling bikes, but things are naturally a little slower than before. One thing that has gone by the wayside is social media. Having less time has meant prioritizing my tasks, and social media is time consuming. I love keeping all my followers updated, but I’ve just been too busy building stuff. That’s something I’m trying to change and I’ll be posting more updates here in the near future.

There are some changes coming to the way we do business and sell bikes, and I’m excited to announce all of them. The changes will mean we get to put more bikes out there and that’s a good thing. That will be in Part 2, so don’t miss it!
