First of all, let’s get the obvious out of the way. Dan had me order in a custom color from my supplier, and yes, it looks bloody amazing.
Dan’s full custom build was a really fun project. The 12-speed Pinion gearbox was at the top of the priority list, and we built up a really cool hardtail around that. Pulling geometry notes from his favorite bikes, we arrived at a very all-around geometry that’s going to be comfortable for long rides and exploration, which is what he does most. The Gates carbon belt drive turns this rig into a very low maintainance machine, essentially requiring attention once a year, to replace the oil in the gearbox, and probably rebuild the fork and possibly seatpost. No nonsense, no marketing hype, no bells and whistles, just a bike that’s good for riding a really long ways.
Lots of MUSA on this bike. He chose to round out the build with a Onyx/Velocity wheelset, White Industries headset, I9 stem, Myth LoMoTo bars, Wolf Tooth seatpost binder, Fox fork and seatpost, and an Ergon saddle. Sensible stuff, but nice stuff.
